The Regional Workshop on Oil Spill Risk Assessment in the Mediterranean Sea (MEDEXPOL 2011) will be organised in Barcelona, Spain, from 29th November to 1st December 2011. The event is being organised by REMPEC in cooperation with the Mediterranean Oil Industry Group (MOIG), and with the participation of the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA).
 

This Workshop is a follow-up to MEDEXPOL 2009 organised in Marseilles (France) on Cooperation, Preparedness for and Response to Oil Spills in the Mediterranean Sea, and to the subsequent recommendation contained in the Mediterranean Government Industry Cooperation Action Plan (MGICAP) to organise a Workshop on Oil Spill Risk Assessment, and to the conclusions of the Ninth Meeting of REMPEC Focal Points.

The main objectives of this Workshop are:

- Presenting and discussing with the Government and Industry Representatives the existing approach to oil spill risk assessment;and
 

- Providing recommendations for the development of an oil spill risk assessment methodology for the Mediterranean Sea during the next biennium (2012-2013)
